Mr. Walker on Youth Development:
I have seen many kids kicking football in Goa, especially on the beaches. But I feel for them as there seems to be no proper guidance as we at Faria Strikers will be adopting 50 of such kids by March 2009 and put them in our Development Programme.
I feel a lot more can be done and needs to be done for these aspiring kids.
Like in South Africa where there are leagues and tournaments for U-11, at least 5-6 kids get picked for the clubs and they channelise their football in a proper way.
However, at Faria Strikers there are plans to push the youth development at the age group level so that in three or four year’s time we have the reserves to bolster the senior team, which aims I-League qualification. The planning needs to be done now.
I believe in inventing a formula that makes coaching easier for kids to learn and enjoy football better. I have found that players with Faria Strikers have shown an amazing and at times an unreal liking for the game of football. Their level of commitment is terrific and they are also keen to learn new things about football. That is truly encouraging and a positive sign for the club and augurs well for the future of the team and players as well.
On Faria Strikers Team
The coach says the team is gearing up to meet the challenge of the First Division League. From what I am told by the GFA, the First Division League will get started from either the last week of November or first week of December. But the challenge is to win and that is the dream of our Patron Mr Francis Faria.
We have a bunch of talented players who are committed to the core and have the eagerness to learn and adapt. I am pleasantly surprised by the level of commitment these players have been showing, which is quite contrary with overseas players from Europe and South Africa.
Mr. Walker further says, Mr. Francis Faria aims to make these kids finally been placed in the best of the best on a global platform. Thus not only does Indian soccer gets a name in the global stage but most important of all our Indian kids have a better life too. Faria Strikers thus makes a commercial venture out of a social cause for the betterment of Goan kids.
To conclude Mr. Walker says when Faria Sports Management completes its Sports City, which should come up in Goa his personal dream comes true of developing the kids from a passion that is driven from the bottom of his heart.
On Faria Sports Management Goa Soccer Masters Academy
The Coach says being appointed as Chief Technical Director coaching for FSMGSMA is something that I always wanted to do and be a part of. According to him a lot can be done and the concept and framework of FSMGSMA a structure of FSMGSMA will be great as it produces world class footballers right here in Goa.
The best part Mr. Walker says is that it is the general kid who becomes a great footballer.
Mr. Walker is confident in this Development Programe of FSMGSMA to produce stars in 36 months.
Mr. Walker further says he has found an excellent guy in Mr Chandrakant Naik, a former goalkeeper and an international footballer, who he is developing as a coach to further take on the mantle in assisting him in the development of the football team.
Mr Walker will be also incorporating a Goalkeeper coach and a free-kick and corner coach so as to develop independent skills of the player.
